Clinic - Simulate Before You Step Test: Practical Process Modeling for APC

Clinic

Missed the November 10th webinar or attended but want to dive deeper? Join Atlas for an open, interactive discussion on any questions you might have on practical process modeling for APC. Additional information is shared below.

A first-principles model will not match a running plant exactly, and it does not need to. Built to the right level of detail, it shows which variables matter, where the operating window is narrow, and which moves are unsafe. Where the model is accurate enough for a given variable, its step responses can be taken from the simulator, reducing reliance on plant testing and leaving shorter, safer, better targeted plant tests to confirm the rest. Atlas Prediction Control walks through how to choose model fidelity; what a model can and cannot be trusted to predict; and why valve and measurement behavior change the answer, illustrated with one of our own case studies.

The session also reviews what published industry evidence shows and closes on a question the literature rarely addresses: how simulation models drift after commissioning, and how they can be kept aligned with the plant as it changes.

It is built for control engineers, process engineers, and operations leaders who are evaluating APC projects or questioning the models behind their existing controllers.
